MR Spectroscopy

What is MR Spectroscopy?

Mr Spectroscopy is the method that should be applied in case of damage to the brain. It is important to have this procedure done so that damage and damages can be detected. In accordance with the procedures performed by our health center, various diseases, especially tumors, are detected. After the detection of the disease, our specialist physicians determine the necessary method for treatment and ensure that treatment is started as soon as possible.

The EMAR devices we use in our center do not harm the patient in any way and are extremely safe. In this way, brain-related diseases for detection of mr spectroscopy the service you can get. It is an extremely effective method for learning about diseases. It is also useful for the healing process. Thanks to the possibility of early treatment, it becomes possible to eliminate or reduce the disease.

Magnetic Resonance (MR) spectroscopy is useful in measuring the presence of a tumor. It is also used to measure the biochemical variability of the brain. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) describes the anatomical location of a tumor, while MRI spectroscopy compares the chemical composition of normal brain tissue with abnormal tumor tissue. This test can also be used to detect tissue changes in stroke and epilepsy. The test is performed using an MRI scanner.

Conventional magnetic resonance (MR) imaging measures the signals emitted by hydrogen nuclei from small voxels selected by spatial variations in frequency and phase.

Organs, soft tissues, bone and virtually all other internal body structures, including MRI provided detailed anatomical images, in addition to two MRI technology Molecular, biochemical activity provides additional information about:

MRS is able to extract information about the concentration of chemical compounds in the body. MRS is used to measure drugs such as choline-containing compounds, creatine, inositol, glucose, N-acetyl aspartate and metabolites such as alanine and lactate, as well as chemotherapeutic agents. MRS can generate and present data in two ways, including the ones we have indicated:

    • A drawing representing the chemical composition of a selected volume of tissue
    • Images that represent the concentration of a compound in the body.

How Is MR Spectroscopy Performed?

Emar devices are used quite widely nowadays. The main reason for this is that it is very useful in detecting diseases. It is also used a lot due to the fact that it does not cause any harm to individuals. It is preferred in brain disorders as a result of both being reliable and producing accurate results. The patient’s brain region is placed inside the device and emar is drawn in this way. During the shooting, the patient should stand steadily, without moving. The results obtained are examined by our specialist doctors.

Spectroscopy is performed using the same machine as standard emar operations. An MRI scan uses a powerful magnet, radio waves, and a computer to create detailed images. In the case of a suspected tumor, imaging is performed to scan the spine and brain to measure its chemical metabolism.

Spectroscopy is used to analyze protons and hydrogen ions. The most commonly preferred is proton spectroscopy. There are several different metabolites or metabolism products that can be measured to Decipher between tumor types:

  • Amino acids
  • Lipid
  • Lactate
  • alanine
  • N-acetyl aspartate
  • Choline
  • Creatine
  • Myoinositol

The frequency of these metabolites is measured in units called parts per million (ppm) and plotted on a graph as peaks of varying height. The neuroradiologist can determine the type of tissue present by measuring the ppm of each metabolite and comparing it with normal brain tissue.

Spectroscopy can be used to Decipher the type of tumor and its aggressiveness, and to differentiate between tumor recurrence and radiation necrosis. Different metabolites may indicate:

  • Glioma: lower than normal levels of N-acetyl aspartate, high levels of choline and lipids, and lactate peaks (Figure 1).
  • Radiation necrosis: does not have high choline levels
  • Meningioma: high alanine levels

How is MRI Spectroscopy Performed?

In general, the same operations are performed in Emar shooting techniques. Only the area of the body that will be pulled changes. However, it is important that you follow the instructions we have given you before the procedure. The most important of these is that you stand still while inside the device.

Moving may cause the image to appear distorted. We ensure that detailed images of your brain are obtained with Emar shooting. As a result of this image, we can also detect your health problems. The procedure starts with lying on your back on the Emar device table. Tumor is a very important health problem. It would be very useful for you to have an emar at our health center because it causes life-threatening.

In a movable bed, you will lie with your head resting on a headrest and your arms on either side of you. An antenna device called a “coil” will be placed on or around the body area to be imaged. It is specialized to produce the clearest picture of the area on which it is placed. When you settle down comfortably, the table will gradually move towards the magnetic field. As the process progresses, you will hear a muffled “popping” sound for a few minutes at a time. The sound of these taken photos can be made by injection of contrast dye (gadolinium) in your arm or through IV to enhance the images.

Spectroscopy may take a little longer than a traditional MRI, as it requires special tests on your tumor or lesion. It is important that you relax and lie as still as possible. Any movement during this time will blur the picture.

How Long Does MR Spectroscopy Take?

Emar shots are completed at different times depending on the region to be displayed. In the general emar process, it takes at least 10 minutes. This period may be longer depending on various elements. In general, the MR spectroscopy procedure performed in our health center is completed in Decays between 15 and 20 minutes. Before the procedure, our medical staff gives you information about the duration. In this way, you will not experience any anxiety caused by the time while staying in the machine.

Although MRS is primarily used in research, it has the potential to provide useful clinical information in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases:

  1. Metabolic disorders, especially those that affect the brain
  • MRS offers the ability to noninvasively assess neurochemical changes
  • MRS studies inform decision making in neurotherapeutics
  • MRS provides information about tumor metabolism
  • Prostate
  1. MRS can Decipher the exact location of the cancer and help distinguish between clinically important and insignificant prostate cancer.
  2. Breast
in addition to MRI, MRS October can reduce the number of false positive results and invasive biopsies. MRI imaging of the breast as a high sensitivity rate (94-100%) to detect tumors, but a variable specificity rate (37-97%) to distinguish malignant tumors from benign tumors. MRS can distinguish malignant tissue from benign tissue better than MRI of the breast.
  1. Brain
  • Brain spectra (created by measuring choline, creatine, and N-acetylaspartate levels) can help physicians distinguish between recurrent tumors and changes due to radiation treatments.
  • MRS allows precise targeting of radiation to recurrent brain tumors.

Is There Any Harm in MR Spectroscopy Shooting?

Imaging techniques are improving every day along with technology. With the EMAR devices we use in our health center, you can detect the health problems that occur in many parts of your body. After the detection process, the early treatment process is started. The mr spectroscopy shots we perform as Safir Lab do not harm people in any way. In this direction, they are also defined as reliable transactions. You can have an EMAR taken at our health center to detect or observe your brain injuries and disorders. There is no such situation as radiation spreading and people being harmed within the scope of imaging.

MRI and MRS are very safe. There are no known health risks associated with the magnetic field or the radio waves used by the machine. Some people are sensitive to contrast media and may develop an allergic reaction. All contrast agents are FDA approved and safe.

Some special circumstances limit the use of a magnetic field, so it is important that you tell our doctors if any of the following applies to you:

  • Pacemaker or artificial heart valve
  • Metal plate, pin or other metallic implant
  • Intrauterine device such as Copper-7 IUD
  • Insulin or other drug pump
  • Aneurysm clips
  • Previous gunshot wound
  • Cochlear implant or other hearing aid
  • Employment history as a metal worker (metal was the favorite)
  • Permanent (tattoo) eyeliner

Any metallic substance on your body can affect the quality of the images and values obtained. In addition, when placed in a magnetic field, it can cause discomfort or injury and exclude you from the examination.

If you are pregnant, you should also tell your doctor and/or medical team. Our specialist doctors do not recommend MRI scanning in the first trimester of pregnancy. Although there is no definitive research that an MRI or MR spectroscopy should not be performed in the second and third trimesters, you will need to obtain a written instruction from your obstetrician in order for the test to be performed.

What Should I Do After MR Spectroscopy?

The spectroscope is preferred by many specialist doctors to obtain information about a person’s brain. It is a very useful procedure for observing brain functions and obtaining detailed information about it. The patient’s complaints are also taken into account during the shooting process. In this way, full information can be obtained about why the complaints are caused.

In this way, the disease can be diagnosed and the possibility of early treatment can arise. After the Emar shooting, there is nothing you need to do. It is possible for you to return to your routine life immediately after the procedure is performed at our health center. In other words, there is nothing you need to do or comply with after emar.

When Will I Get My MR Spectroscopy Result?

Emar is performed using advanced equipment. We use technological emar machines in our health center. Thanks to these machines, you can ensure that all kinds of problems related to your brain can be detected. People who have a problem with brain function should definitely have an emar. As Safir Lab, we do mr spectroscopy shooting for people who need it. After the results are published, the patient is presented with the necessary information. Usually, the results obtained in a short time come out in different durations according to the intensity.

Do I Need Preparation For MR Spectroscopy?

Information is given to the patients by our health personnel before the procedure. You will be more comfortable with the information about the details of the transaction to be made. At the same time, the necessary information is given about the time you will stay in the machine. In this direction, you are told not to move inside the device.

There is no need for any extra preparation. All you have to do is remove your metal items. Metal objects can affect the images and cause interference. As Safir Lab, we perform MRI spectroscopy and ensure that tumors and similar problems in your brain are detected.
